December 2010
A few days ago Aly Silverio contacted us, a seventeen years old that has a small, handmade business known as Jawbreaking Jewelry. www.shopjawbreakingjewelry.com

Aly had hoped that she could sell her unique handmade polymer clay jewelry through our boutique. We are located in Echo Park, California and this talented seventeen year old makes her goodies in Morrisville, NC. Unfortunately, we make it a point to try and only sell locally made items on consignment through our store.
We did however want to tumbl about the interaction and let you all know a little about this determined teen with a dream!
Aside from her regular sales over the past few years, she’s made specialized necklaces as donations to various charities and organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, Invisible Children, and Susan G. Komen’s Breast Cancer Foundation. In early 2010, she decided she wanted to give back beyond just one necklace. Aly chose to donate $1 of each sale to the non-profit organization, To Write Love On Her Arms.
We are strong believers in empowering people to do “good” in the world whether it’s to donate to an organization or to just use vintage/upcycled/recycled products instead of new like a lot of the items in our boutique.
We hope you are as inspired by this young entrepreneur (because you should be). It shows you that with a little determination and perseverance anything is possible. I don’t know very many teenagers that have shipped jewelry to the U.K., Australia, Singapore, and Canada… among others. Brandi Cyrus of Frank & Derol and Sierra Kusterbeck from Versa Emerge have also worn Jawbreaking Jewelry. All this from a high school student that at fifteen (in 2008) decided not to get a fast-food job but instead take her creativity and turn it into a career.
